I was feeling nostalgic tonight, so I decided to look through my old school folders and I found these spreads from a children’s book illustration class I took a few years back.
We made two dummy books, one as a midterm and one as a final project. My midterm book was about an unpopular clown named Lulu who went to her friends for advice on performing. My final project was about a princess who had to save her knight in shining armor after he was kidnapped.
The princess book took a lot of cues from Mo Willems’ work, and it’s really Cucumber Quest-y, but the art style was all over the place, so it’s kind of embarrassing to look at now. The Lulu book had much more consistent visuals and straightforward writing, and I still think it’s my favorite of the two. I’d like to redo it sometime!
